Developing Sports Leaders through the medium of cricket

Through the links our PE department have developed with Lincolnshire Cricket, our students are benefiting from a new initiative to create sports leaders.

A talented group of Year 9 and Year 10 students have formed the Giles Academy Sports Leadership Group and will be working with Katie Falkner who is the Development Officer at Lincolnshire Cricket.

Using the medium of cricket, the students are now being challenged not to just complete in sports, but to become a sports leader and learn how to coach and deliver sports activities to younger students. The course will also develop communication skills and the confidence of our students.

The students who have this rewarding opportunity are considering or taking sports courses at Key Stage 4 and already have a strong interest in extra-curricular activities. They are also talented sports players themselves and have been committed to the PE Department.

Mrs Cooper and Mr Dodd, Teachers of PE at Giles Academy said “Our students had their first session with Katie Falkner last week and this was a huge success. It was lovely to see these students taking the next step in their sporting development. They have another four weeks of the course ahead of them and we look forward to seeing them develop into sports leaders.”
