3v3 Basketball Team crowned South Lincolnshire U12 champions

Taylor Ainsworth, Oliver Richardson and Tommy Rivett in Year 7 travelled to University Academy Holbeach this week to represent Giles Academy in the South Lincolnshire U12 3v3 Basketball Plate Tournament and compete against other teams from the Boston and Spalding areas.

We are incredibly proud of their performances as a team as they were victorious and crowned tournament champions. What makes this achievement even more special, is that they only started playing together as a team just one week ago!

The tournament was a round-robin format with ten teams that all played each other once then a league table determined who would progress. The top four teams then progressed to the semi-finals and then a knock-out game to earn a place in the final.

Having secured second place in the round-robin standing they then faced Thomas Middlecott Academy Team 1 in the semi-finals and secured a 3-0 victory. In the final, they played Thomas Middlecott Academy Team 2 and the boys delivered an outstanding display of clinical shooting and finishing with a resounding 5-0 victory to be crowned champions.

Oliver Richardson earned the Coach’s Player of the Tournament award, and Taylor Ainsworth received the Player’s Player of the Tournament.

Mr Reed, Head of PE said “I would like to commend the boys on their fantastic accomplishment and look forward to witnessing their continued achievements in future competitions. All of the team are a real credit to the school.”
