Giles netball teams were a force to be reckoned with this season

It has been an incredible season for the girl’s netball teams at Giles Academy. All of the teams from Years 7 to 11 have represented our school exceptionally well and made Giles Academy one of the top schools for netball in the district.
Year 11 have set the standard for all of the teams to follow as they have now won the District Superzone League for the third time in a row! What they have achieved is very special as they have consistently dominated their league. Over the last five years they have been a joy to watch as they have developed a ‘sixth sense’ to where each other are on the court.
Stepping up for an unbelievable first season is the Year 7 team who have won all of their matches in the District Superzone League to go undefeated and be crowned champions. They have swept the opposition aside by scoring an astonishing 93 goals and only conceded 10 goals all season. To put this in perspective, the runners up only scored 28 goals all season!
In addition to winning the District Superzone League, the Year 7 team went on to win the SLAT Netball Tournament against Spalding Academy, Bourne Academy and Cowley Academy. We have high hopes that the Year 7 team will go on to win even more leagues and competitions for the following seasons.
Our other netball teams have also had seasons to be proud of. Year 8 were runners up in their league scoring an impressive 32 goals this season. The Year 9 team came third overall in a highly competitive league and Year 10 were runners-up after just losing one game all season to the league winners.
Mrs Cooper, Teacher of PE said “I would like to thank to all the netball players in every year who have worked so hard throughout the season during PE lessons, in training and competing in matches across the district. The fantastic enthusiasm of the players is matched by their commitment to playing as a team. It has been an absolute pleasure to coach the teams and see them continue to develop and get results. On behalf of the PE department, we are incredibly proud of their efforts.”
