Girls teams at Giles Academy are sporting winners this term

Girls sport at Giles Academy has had an amazing start of the academic year as our students have participated in many sports such as netball, football, cricket, basketball and tennis.

Students have played in matches and won tournaments against other schools, taken part in extra-curricular coaching sessions and even had a Christmas Party!

The U14 Girls Basketball Team were crowned the U14 South Lincolnshire Basketball Champions when they beat every team in tournament by scoring 52 points and conceded just 16 points. There were wins against Boston High School, Thomas Middlecott Academy, Haven High Academy and Cowley Academy.

Cricket at the school has been one of the big successes in the last few years with Giles Academy being recognised for how we have developed the game with coaching and increased participation. We are very proud of our U13 Girls Cricket Team who won the first round U13 District Competition and are now through to the semi-final which will take place in January 2025.

Our excellent sporting facilities have been used to host the ECB U15 Girls Indoor Cricket Tournament with schools from as far as Spalding, Horncastle and Tattershall.

We have continued to develop players and dominate on the netball court as the new students to Giles Academy have followed the progress of other Year groups. Our Under 13 Netball Team won 23-2 against Thomas Middlecott Academy and the Year 7 Netball Team won 24-2 against Giles Academy.

Our U14 Girls Football Team are through to the next round of the U14 County Cup after winning their round 2 match again Priory Pembroke Academy. The match finished 1-1 with a goal from Hollie Cranfield and then went to penalties where every Giles player scored from the spot! Good luck in the next round.

The U13 Girls Football Team have also had great experiences in their first term by winning 5-2 against Jack Hunt School from Peterborough in the U13 National Schools Cup and in the next round only losing on penalties against Spalding High School.

As well as playing competitive matches, our students have benefitted from extra-curricular sports during lunchtimes and after-school. Through our links with Boston United FC, our girls have been able to take part in professional football coaching sessions provided by Boston United Community Foundation. With women’s football on an all time high, it’s great to see our local football club develop the game in schools.

For the perfect finale of the 2024, the Netball Teams had their own Christmas party. They swapped their bibs for Christmas jumpers and instead of competitive games they had party games. There is a great team spirit and friendship between all of the students and this is key element behind the team success.

Everyone in the Giles Academy PE department would like to thank all of students in all Year groups who have participated in sport at the school. They have enjoyed working with everyone and look forward to more success in 2025.
