Kin-Ball Festival introduces a new team sport to get active
A group of Year 7 students had a fantastic time learning a new team sport, getting active and making new friends as they took part in a Kin-Ball Festival, which was held at University Academy Long Sutton.
The event, which was organised by Lincolnshire School Games provided an exciting and engaging experience as well as a great opportunity to help these students with their transition to secondary school.
Kin-Ball is a relatively new sport, which originated from Canada where three teams of four players compete against each other at the same time to try and keep a giant ball (measuring 1.2 metres) off the floor! The objective of the game is to score the most amount of points by not letting the ball touch the ground. It is a great game to get students active, work as a team and most of all having fun!
The event allowed our students to develop key skills in communication, teamwork, and strategic play while enjoying a high-energy sporting environment against teams from other schools. Once they learnt the rules, they were able to use tactics and quick-thinking to outmanoeuvre their opponents.
The students were split into two teams as they played three games against other schools. Our students performed brilliantly showing outstanding teamwork and determination as one Giles team won all three of their games and the other Giles team won two of their three games.
Mr Reed, Teacher of PE said “Throughout the day, our students represented Giles Academy in a positive, respectful and enthusiastic manner. Their sportsmanship, encouragement of one another and willingness to engage with this unique sport were clear to see. All students who participated thoroughly enjoyed their day, demonstrating the cooperative spirit that Kin-Ball promotes. We are extremely proud of their achievements and the way they embodied the values of Giles Academy.”
