We are a finalist in the Lincolnshire Sport & Physical Activity Awards
Giles Academy are proud to be selected as finalists in the Lincolnshire Sport & Physical Activity Awards 2024 and will be attending a prestigious awards celebration evening on Thursday 7th November 2024 at the Engine Shed in the University of Lincoln.
The awards are celebrating its 20th anniversary, and this year there were over 450 nominations across Lincolnshire for eleven award categories, which recognises the positive impact physical activity has on people’s lives.
The incredible work the ‘Giles Academy Cricket Leadership Group’ has made over the past two years is once again being officially recognised as we are just one of three organisations who have been shortlisted for the ‘Positive Experiences for Children & Young People Award’ category.
Pictured below is Mrs Cooper, Teacher of PE at Giles Academy and Katie Falkner, Girls Development Officer from Chance to Shine who have played a key role in working with our students to give them the opportunities to develop their leadership skills and confidence as well as promoting girls cricket in the school.
In partnership with Chance to Shine and Lincolnshire Cricket, 29 girls at Giles Academy have so far participated in a cricket leadership programme where they have truly excelled as they become inspiration coaches for younger students. They have developed leadership qualities, teamwork, empathy and self-confidence by taking part in this programme.
Nothing has phased the students as they have delivered coaching sessions to primary students during the Women’s Ashes Series at Trent Bridge and been confident as they delivered interviews for Sky TV. Most recently, they have officiated and scored at a local primary school cricket festival by interacting with primary students, teachers and parents.
We are incredibly proud of the staff and students involved and be shortlisted for this impressive award is a testament to their hard work and dedication.
