PGL netball weekend was full of adrenalin activities and games
Earlier this term, Mrs Cooper, Miss Ward and Miss Heasley from the PE department arranged a packed weekend of netball and adventure activities for 24 of our dedicated netball players at PGL in Boreatton Park near Shrewsbury.
As part of this fun activity-based weekend, there was a netball tournament where we had three teams (U13, U14 and U15) compete against other schools from across the country as far as Birmingham, Northumbria, Cheshire and Yorkshire. This provided a great opportunity for students to benefit from teambuilding as they could bond on and off the court.
The netball tournament consisted of six matches over two days where our teams were aiming to get enough points to qualify for the semi-finals and finals. The netball games were tough and highly competitive, with all teams pushing themselves to perform at their best.
All of the teams performed excellently and Giles Academy had an incredibly successful tournament as the U14 team reached the final and the U15 reached the semi-finals.
The U14 team had some high scoring games in the group stages when the won 16-0, 14-0, 10-1, 9-0 and 8-0 and only lost one game. In the semi-finals, they won 9-5 and on just lost out in the final narrowly losing 5-3. Overall the team scored an astonishing 73 goals! Darci, Florence and Winter were selected Player’s Player and across the tournament, the Team Player was Annabell and the Coaches Player was Daisy.
To reach the semi-finals, the U15 team had more closely contested matches in a competitive group and were only narrowly lost in the semi. Emilija, Viktorija, Brooke and Alise were selected Player’s Player and across the tournament, the Team Player was Emilija and the Coaches Player was Abi.
The tournament was also great experience for the U13 team who scored more goals with confidence as the matches progressed. Louisa and Taya were selected Player’s Player and across the tournament, the Team Player was Molly and the Coaches Player was Lillie.
Beyond the netball courts, students embraced a wide range of adrenalin filled adventure and leisure activities including zip lining, trapeze, rifle shooting, giant swing, abseiling, rock climbing, a silent disco and sports day-style games. Students showed enjoyment, courage, bravery, friendship and had a wonderful time trying all the activities with their friends.
Overall, despite some wet weather, it was a fantastic weekend full of sport, fun, challenges, friendship and comradery. Our students were incredible ambassadors for the school who made it a special weekend with unforgettable memories. Well done to all involved!
