Our thoughts are with the royal family at this time

By now you all will have undoubtably heard the incredibly sad news that at 6.30pm last night, Thursday 8th September 2022. The royal family announced in a press statement that our Queen had died peacefully, surrounded by her children and family members.

Queen Elizabeth II died at aged 96 after 70 years on the throne and her life of service stretched beyond most of our living memories.

She was an inspiration to the world for her lifetime of service and dedication to her duties and she was loved and admired by the people in the United Kingdom and all around the world.

She has been a personal inspiration to so many, with her devotion to duty being an example to us all.

Her Majesty the Queen’s long record of public service is unparalleled in our nation’s history. She was a source of stability, good judgment and wisdom. Throughout her remarkable reign, the Queen led Britain through great transformations with unfailing grace, dignity and genuine care for the welfare of all. In sunshine or storm, she demonstrated kindness, courage, warmth, serenity and strength, as well as considerable humour and charm. The nation owes her a deep debt of gratitude for her unwavering devotion to the United Kingdom and to the Commonwealth.

Our thoughts need to be with the royal family at this sad time.

The Queen will now be succeeded by her eldest son, the Prince of Wales, who will become King Charles III.

The announcement of the Queen’s death will mark the start of national mourning that will continue until the end of the official State Funeral, which will include across the country union flags to be lowered, church services held, and condolence books offered for members of the public to pay their respects during this significant period of change.

The DfE have already communicated that all Schools will remain open during this period of national mourning.  Buckingham Palace will release the final official arrangements for the funeral in the coming days and we will communicate any further information to all students, staff and parents/carers once details are confirmed that may impact on any school activities or events.
