Ambition Reading Challenge broadens our students' horizons

Before the Easter holidays, we launched the Ambition Reading Challenge to promote the love of reading and encourage students to read the ‘classics’ across a wide range of genres including adventure, fantasy, history, mystery and general fiction.
The challenge for students was to read any ten books from our specially curated list for 50 classics that have been chosen for their enjoyment and challenging nature.
When students have completed reading their ten books, they can then write a review of their favourite book in the Ambition Reading Challenge booklet.
Congratulations to Abidat Isiak in Year 9 who was the first student to complete the challenge and she received £15 worth of book tokens, 250 achievement points and a special Ambition Reading badge for her efforts.
The first 10 books that Abidat chose to read were: Black Beauty, Persuasion, The Star of Kazan, Robinson Crusoe, 1984, Birdsong, The Book Thief, Magyk, Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde and The Da Vinci Code. Her favourite book was George Orwell’s 1984 and she enjoyed how it warns that corruption, manipulation and unchecked power can lead our democratic world into a dystopian society.
The challenge has certainly expanded Abidat’s horizons as she has continued to choose to read even more books from the list of classics with the history genre being her favourite.
The Ambition Reading Challenge booklets are available from the school library and details can be seen below.
