Remembrance observed at school and in the local community

On Remembrance Sunday, students from Giles Academy represented the school at the Boston Town Remembrance Service. Our student ambassadors laid a wreath from all at Giles Academy and stood alongside all our local Defences and Emergency Services representatives. Following this, they attended the town church service to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in conflict.

Miss Belcher, Head of School said “It was a privilege to be involved in this important occasion and I was extremely proud of the confidence, respect and maturity the students displayed.”

In our school traditional, on the Friday, our students and uniformed cadets also placed a placed a wreath at the Old Leake Church Memorial.

Throughout last week, students and staff have been getting involved in a variety of ways from selling poppies in aid of the Royal British Legion to incorporating Remembrance into subject lessons. In the school reception, there was a stunning poppy display that featured hundreds of colourful poppies that were individually decorated by students.

On Remembrance Day on 11th November at 11am, the whole school stopped during breaktime for a one-minute silence to mark the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the month, which was impeccably observed as we remembered the people who have died in wars around the world.

Each year, we also give students that are part of a RAF, Army or Police Cadets, St John Ambulance or Scouts and Guides the opportunity to wear their uniform throughout the school day.
