School closed on Monday 19th September for State Funeral

Following the announcement from Buckingham Palace of the death of our sovereign, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, a period of National Mourning has started and will continue until the end of the State Funeral. This is a period of time for reflection in response to the death of the Sovereign.

The official date of the State Funeral is Monday 19th September 2022. This day will be a bank holiday and settings that are normally closed on a bank holiday should close on this day as a mark of respect, which will include schools. This day will be treated as any normal bank holiday, therefore no work will be set for students on this day.

Therefore, please note that all SLAT schools will be closed on Monday 19th September 2022:

  • Giles Academy
  • Cowley Academy
  • Spalding Academy
  • Bourne Academy

For all schools normal attendance is expected throughout the National Mourning period, other than the bank holiday on Monday 19th September 2022. Schools play an important role in supporting young people at this difficult time and therefore please be reassured that we will be holding assemblies to remember the nation’s longest reigning monarch and to help students process her monumental passing, as well as adapting our tutor time sessions / PSHE lessons reflect the period of mourning.

Finally, so that we can offer all young people and staff in our schools the chance for reflection, we will be observing a one-minute silence as a mark of respect at 11am on Monday 12th September 2022.
