PE department officially recognised for positive experiences in sport

Our PE department are no strangers to awards ceremonies as their hard work and achievements have been officially recognised both nationally and locally in Lincolnshire.

The latest accolade for our amazing PE department, was being awarded finalists in the Lincolnshire Sport & Physical Activity Awards in the ‘Positive Experiences for Children & Young People Award’ category. 2024 has been another amazing year for sport at the school and we were absolutely thrilled to be finalists.

The incredible work the ‘Giles Academy Cricket Leadership Group’ has made over the past two years really impressed the judges who shortlisted Giles Academy out of over 450 nominations for the positive impact physical activity this has had on young people’s lives.

Earlier this term, our PE department went to a prestigious awards celebration evening at the Engine Shed in the University of Lincoln. The event was hosted by Freya Colbert, an international swimmer from Grantham who swam at the Paris Olympics and BBC presenter Rob Makepeace with an audience of over 300 people.

For our school to be recognised among such deserving sports people, organisations and inspirational adults and young people was inspiring and is a testament to how far the school has developed its sporting curriculum and extra-curricular programme.

All of the students are incredibly lucky to have a PE department who really goes the extra mile and ensures that everyone has the best possible opportunity to participate in sport and also thrive and reach their potential.

The importance of regularly taking part in any sport cannot be underestimated as it is great fun plus improves your physical and mental wellbeing that will improve academic performance in the classroom.

Thank you to everyone who has engaged in sport at Giles Academy in 2024 and we look forward another amazing year in 2025!
