Sports Day spectacular brings out the best in athletes
One of the highlights of the academic year is the Giles Academy Sports Day which took place on Friday 5th July 2024 and we treated to perfect conditions for students to compete.
This sporting spectacular was held on the school grounds as we are lucky to have amazing sports facilities at Giles Academy and the athletics track on the field was freshly painted for the occasion.
Over 200 students competed in a range of events such as the 100m, 200m, 3/400m, 800m, 1,500m, Javelin, Shot Put, High Jump and Tug of War. The finale of the day was the 4 x 100m relay with boys and girls teams for Years 7 to 10.
Mr Dodd, Head of PE said “Congratulations to the all of the students who took part and represented their Houses by putting in their best performances. All the competitors competed in great spirit with tremendous enthusiasm. The day ran extremely smoothly with some excellent individual performances.”
A special mention goes to George Skipworth in Year 8 who stormed his way to win the 800 metres and broke the school record that has been held by N Stone since 1999. He beat the record by one second with an amazing time of 2 minutes 36 seconds.
Thank you to everyone in the PE department, the Heads of House and all of the staff volunteers who made this such a fantastic event.
The overall results for the Houses are below and congratulations to Tennyson House.
