Sports Day spectacular brings out the best in athletes
One of the highlights of the academic year at Giles Academy is the annual Sports Day which took place on Friday 4th July 2025 and we were treated to sunshine and dry weather for students to compete.
This whole-school event took place on the immaculate sports field at Giles Academy with both competitors and spectators coming together in support of their Houses. The day was packed with energy, enthusiasm, and plenty of memorable moments.
Over 500 students from Years 7 to 10 took part in a wide range of track events, including the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1,500m, and the 4 x 200m relay races, with separate competitions for boys and girls. The day was bookended by the ever-popular Tug of War finals, which drew loud cheers from the crowd. Field events such as Javelin, Shot Put, High Jump, and Long Jump were held earlier in the week, ensuring a full programme of athletic talent on display.
A special thank you goes to the PE department, Heads of House, and all staff volunteers who helped make the day such a fantastic success.
Mr Dodd, Head of PE, commented: “Congratulations to all of the students who participated and competed for their Houses by giving their best effort. All competitors and spectators showed a great competitive spirit. The day ran extremely smoothly, with some excellent individual performances.”
The overall results for the Houses are as follows:
- 1st – Purple House (311 points)
- 2nd – Yellow House (310 points)
- 3rd – Green House (289 points)
- 4th – Blue House (280 points)
- 5th – Red House (267 points)
- 6th – Orange House (266 points)
