Netball Superleague game with Loughborough Lightning thrills students

After an incredible season for our netball teams as we are recognised as one of the top schools in the district, we rewarded our students with the opportunity to watch a live Superleague game.

Twenty of our Year 7 to 10 netball players travelled to the Loughborough University campus last Friday evening to watch round 18 of the Netball Superleague with Loughborough Lightning vs London Pulse.

With London Pulse currently third in the Super League, Loughborough Lightning has a tough fight on their hands, as they were only one place above them in the league table. Loughborough Lightning taking an early 7 goal lead, but the third quarter was intense as London Pulse overtook and extending their lead by 6 goals. It all came down to the final quarter, where Loughborough picked up the pace and brought the game back to within 2 goals. The final score was 61-59 to London Pulse in a thrilling match.

There were star players on both teams with England players Funmi Fadoju and Olivia Tchine in the spotlight for London Pulse and Uganda star shooter Mary Cholhok had the crowd erupting every time she scored by performing her signature ‘lay-up’.

Miss Ward, Teacher of PE said “The atmosphere in the arena was brilliant. For many of our students, this was their first experience of a live netball match and many of them left saying they felt inspired and mesmerised by how fast and strong the players are and how intense the standard of Superleague netball is. Our students were asking many questions about the tactics of the teams and are keen to get back to netball club in September to put some of the ideas they’ve seen in to practice.”
