Inspiring future change-makers with UK Parliament Week
The topic of democracy plays an key element in the PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) programme, which is incorporated into the school curriculum. This provides students with an understanding of how the democratic system works so they can make an impact on the issues they care about.
Last week, students took part in UK Parliament Week, which is a national event designed to empower young people with the knowledge and hands-on experience they need to get involved with UK Parliament and democracy both now and in the future. This year, our students gained an understanding of how the Britain democracy compares to that of others across the world such as the USA.
Our students had a greater understanding of what it is like to vote and how the election process works, thanks to the Trust-wide mock General Election we held last July to coincide with the actual General Election. This encouraged students to discuss and debate political issues as well as well as being better prepared for when they put an X in the box for the very first time!
As young people are the future change-makers, we hope that the UK Parliament Week has inspired our students to get more involved in politics in the future.
